Malton & Norton 10 : 15 Wetherby

Wetherby made the long trip to Malton & Norton and oh so nearly came a cropper after a sluggish start.  An interval lead of 3 points to nil from an Alex Dus penalty 27 minutes in to the game showed what a tightly contested game this was and not until 6 minutes into the resumption of the second half did Wetherby finally go over for a well executed score by Rob Field.  Barney Roberts playing @ hooker threw the ball in to a line out some 30 metres from the Malton line and immediately regathered and after a superb cross field run fed the ball to Field to go over.

Malton hit back within 4 minutes to claw back to within 3 points but Wetherby further stretched the lead with a converted score from Rob Hardy.  The final score was still in doubt right down to the wire when the home side pulled back another try with only 2 minutes left to play but the spoils went to Wetherby with the final whistle.

Wetherby 17 : 12 West Park Leeds

Wetherby playing against a much larger squad which included 4 x U 18s & the loan of their front line prop emerged victorious after a hard fought battle 17 points to 12.

Sustained pressure by the junior Colts proved fruitless until centre Rob Hardy pounced on a loose ball after a 50 metre kick from fly half Alex Dus to go in under the posts Dus ably adding the conversion.

West Park struck back within 3 minutes to level just before the interval.

Wetherby never really appeared to hit top gear throughout the game but ever present Jonny Wheatley tip toed along the left touch line to go over to pull ahead.  Park again pulled back to within 2 points until Dus secured the victory with a superbly executed penalty on the stoke of time.

Sunday 20th September 2009

Wetherby 41 : 7 Rodillians

Wetherby took the spoils in an unusually ill tempered encounter 41 points to 7 against against local rivals Rodillians.

From the kick off Wetherby pressured within the Rod's 30m eventually resulting in an opening score for 2nd row Chris Dack.  Scrum Half George Carr was next on the score sheet selling an outrageous dummy out wide to go over.  Further scores from Tom Edwards & Dom Siekierkowski on the wing saw the home side in to  24 to nil half time score line.

The 2nd period saw a stand off between the two sides until Edwards went over for his brace.  Rods had a brief fight back seeing them rewarded with a converted score until George Heggie playing at wing forward went in for two touchdowns to seal the game.

League Match, North West 4

Skipton 0 : 55 Wetherby

Wetherby opened their League campaign in North West 4 with an emphatic win over League rivals Skipton running in 9 uncontested tries, centre Jonny Wheatley claiming a personal tally of 4.

Wetherby entered the unknown never having played Skipton in their history but going into an interval lead 26 points to nil through scores from wing Dom Siekierkowski, Chris Dack & Wheatley the writing was already on the wall for the home side.

Straight from the resumption of the 2nd period Wetherby struck again when Tom Edwards playing @ No.8 crashed over from short range for the first of his brace further touch downs from Wheatley & full back Rob Hardy secured victory and the first league points in the Junior Colts favour.
