Welcome
Wetherby RUFC has an increasingly
thriving Youth rugby section. Over recent years more and more kids
have become involved in playing rugby and they now run teams at
every age group from under 7s to under 17s.
The successful under 16 (season 2006-7)
team have been desperate for a new set of team shirts as their
existing 3 year old ones were getting too small and were literally
falling apart. Two of the players’ Mums, Yvette Carr and Jan
Pearson, who work together at Lloyds TSB, approached Jamie Allison,
their Regional Business Development Director to see if he could
help.
Jamie not only arranged for sponsorship
of £600 from Lloyds TSB, but in addition, Jamie’s father, Fenwick
Allison, also insisted on donating a further £100, which enabled the
club to buy a new full set of strips for the under 16 squad of 26
players. Fenwick Allison is a former rugby international
himself having played for England between 1957 and 1959, and remains
a keen supporter of youth rugby.
Jamie was able to attend the clubs
Youth section recent end of season awards when he presented the new
set of shirts to the team, along with Yvette and Jan.
Next season the team will be playing in
the Yorkshire under 17 league and they hope their new shirts will
help them achieve even more success. In the meantime, Yvette
and Jan’s sons, Drew and Alex, have both recently started working as
part time Saturday morning cashiers for the Bank, but they try and
avoid working with their Mums if possible!
